Great Blue Heron’s first-class casino includes more than 15,000 sq. Of exciting casino space, hosting 50 of your favourite table games. Construction of a 3,200 sq. Structural steel addition, to the existing Great Blue Heron Tensile Structure, located at 21777 Island Road, Port Perry, Ontario. The single storey structure is fully sprinklered, fire alarmed and encompasses a gaming floor and a new atrium to suit the development as part of Phase I.

The current gaming, food and beverage areas in the existing building, will be repurposed into an entertainment venue, will be part of Phase II.

Phase II is a 4 storey fully sprinklered 6,276 sq.m structure, complete with 116 suites, administration offices, fitness centre, kitchen, lounge and a 4 storey atrium. The covered walkway and Porte Cochere is part of this Phase II, which links the existing casino to the new hotel.

Great Canadian will operate the gaming facilities within the GTA bundle on behalf of the partnership, which will operate the casinos for 22 years under a Casino Operating and Services Agreement (COSA). Under the COSA, OGGLP will take over day-to-day operations of OLG Slots at Woodbine Racetrack, OLG Slots at Ajax Downs and Great Blue Heron Casino. The decision by Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) to select a service provider for three casinos in the Greater Toronto Area is likely to spur significant redevelopment and expansion at the sites, although details are still unclear about the extent and scope of the development.

Great Canadian and Brookfield will each hold a 49 per cent interest in OGGLP. Clairvest Group Inc. will hold a two per cent interest. Great Canadian will operate the gaming facilities within the GTA bundle on behalf of the partnership, which will operate the casinos for 22 years under a Casino Operating and Services Agreement (COSA). OLG expects that the service provider will assume operations in early 2018.

Woodbine, which now hosts slot machines, is expected to become a full-fledged casino and entertainment/hotel complex, described as a “city within a city,” based on a design international architecture and planning firm SWA Group.

In a statement, racetrack operator Woodbine Entertainment Group said it looks forward to working with the new “key partners” while proceeding with its vision for 684 privately owned acres, including “expanded entertainment and cultural offerings, food and dining, hotel, shopping, employment, post-secondary education, recreation, health, wellness, and urban residential living (facilities).”

The new partnership won’t make the winning plan public just yet, the Toronto Star has reported Chuck Keeling of Great Canadian Gaming as saying.

“We are eager and excited,” he said, but, “in a proposal this large and complex, there a lot of vested stakeholders,” and it is important to brief them on plans and get feedback before making the details public.

“We do have a vision for the GTA marketplace, and, at this place, we don’t want to speak to any of the details, which include preferential locations,” for casino sites, said Keeling, promising details “soon.”
