DURANT — The Choctaw Nation plans to break ground this spring on a major expansion of its Durant casino and resort property that will more than double the number of guest rooms and create 1,000 jobs.
The gaming floor will be expanded and 1,000 guest rooms will be added to the 776 rooms that are currently available, said Kristina Humenesky, director of public relations for the Choctaw Casino and Resort.
Plans also include adding amenities such as new pools, a lazy river, parking garage retail space, a conference center and entertainment and food and beverage options, tribal officials said.
The casino and resort property currently has about 2,800 employees. It is located along U.S. 75 in Durant, about a 10-minute drive north of the Oklahoma-Texas border.
Humenesky declined to reveal the estimated cost of the project, but said more information should be provided at the ground breaking which is expected to take place in late spring 2019. The project is expected to take about 24 months to complete.
“More than 30 years ago our tribe had the vision to begin this expedition by purchasing the 50 acres that the resort resides on today,” said Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Chief Gary Batton. “We are elated to continue to grow with our community and improve the lives of our tribal and community members.'
This will be the fourth expansion project since the original casino opened in 2006, officials said.
Tutor Perini Building Corp., which has offices in New York; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Henderson, Nevada, will lead a design-build team that includes JCJ Architecture and Friedmutter Group as design partners.
JCJ Architecture and Friedmutter Group also have offices in multiple cities.
Tutor Perini Building Corp. has completed more than 30 projects for various tribal nations over the past 25 years, officials said.
TynanGroup LLC, a national real estate development services firm, will be the developer for the expansion.

Job Purpose or Objective(s): Environmental Services Staff is responsible for ensuring the overall cleanliness and professional appearance of the casino facilities .

Primary Tasks:
Stock housekeeping supplies when delivered.
Apply cleaning solvents to clean rooms or work areas; moving or lifting objects to do so.
Operate cleaning equipment to clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, Casino floor, and other work, storage, and customer areas including metalwork such as fixtures and fittings. Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies using vacuum cleaner.
Empty wastebaskets, and empty and clean ashtrays; transport trash and waste to disposal area.
Wash windows and sills, door panels, walls, ceiling and woodwork.
Clean biohazard material
Answer or direct customer or public inquiries to the appropriate department when necessary.
Expected to take initiative to immediately clean or correct problem areas.
Other duties as may be assigned.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
MINIMUM
Prior Environmental Services/Housekeeping Experience in the hospitality industry preferred
Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations they undergo (includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods)
Knowledge of cleaning machines and tools, including their designs, uses, basic repair, and maintenance
General knowledge of cleaning requirements in the hospitality industry
Understand government public health regulations
TARGET
